DHI UK & Ireland is very pleased to invite you to the DHI – IRELAND Symposium 2018.
This free event is your opportunity to learn more about the varied applications of our modelling software, and our complementary technologies, through client-led presentations. The Symposium provides an excellent opportunity to meet DHI experts, as well as your contemporaries from consultancy, academia, regulatory authorities and research organisations.

We will be starting this year's event with drinks and nibbles followed by a DHI Lecture on the evening of Monday 17th September 2018. We encourage everyone to arrive on the 17th to relax with a drink, nibbles and some informal networking.
The main event will start at 08:30am on Tuesday 17th September 2018. This day will be your opportunity to tell everyone how you have been using MIKE software over the past 12-months, share newly acquired knowledge and innovations, learn how we use our software, and network with your peers. Lunch will be provided, and the day will finish around 4:30pm to give you time to travel home. You are more than welcome to stay on later if you wish to meet with us face to face.
CONFERENCE PROGRAMME
On Tuesday 18th September 2018 there will be a full program of client led presentations. These will include:
- Adrian Bell, RPS Group who will speak about computational and physical modelling of the Alexandra Parade seawall at Peterhead Harbour.
- John Martin, OPW who will talk about application of hydraulic modelling on the national Catchment-based Flood Risk Assessment & Management (CFRAM) programme, as well as discussing the likely future modelling requirements for the detailed development of over 100 flood relief schemes programmed over the coming decade.
- Sinéad Duffy, Met Éireann who will talk about Met Éireann and the establishment of a Flood Forecast Centre. This talk will cover the current situation with flood forecasting in Ireland, the cooperation between Met Éireann, the OPW and other stakeholders in setting up the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Service (which the Flood Forecast Centre is part of), and the staffing, communications and modelling plans for the service.
- Siddhi Joshi, National University of Ireland, Galway who will tell us about Sediment mobility modelling and maerl habitat dynamics in Galway Bay.
- Louise Kregting, Queens University Belfast who will describe her work using coupled hydrodynamic and particle tracking modelling to determine genetic variation in cultivated kelp.
- Kevin Barry, Arup who will explain the work Arup has done, as part of a pre-feasibility study for the Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme, to assess the impact of a tidal barrier on the hydrodynamics of the Cork Harbour.
- Mike O'Shea (Malachy Walsh and Partners) and Jimmy Murphy (University College Cork) who will explain the use of MIKE21 to study the morphodynamic evolution of the mid-bay barrier beach system of Inner Dingle Bay, Co. Kerry.
- Rebecca Seal, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) who will present their work on using numerical modelling to regulate a growing aquaculture sector. This will be of interest to regulators, fish farm operators and consultants working in the aquaculture field.
- Ronan Kane from Irish Water who will speak about some of the environmental modelling studies being delivered by Irish Water through the capital investment plan. This talk will introduce the new Irish Water Marine Modelling Standard as well as discussing the likely future modelling requirements for the assessment of the impacts of Irish Water activities on the environment.
