Two days of intense presentations and discussions have passed as many of us attended the “Best Environmental Practices in the Marine Industry”. More than 90 participants from 13 countries took the opportunity to learn about planning and operational tools and methods required to work with nature and develop more sustainable solutions for the maritime industry.
Day one of the conference was dedicated to oil spill, dredging and reclamation as well as wave-structure interactions. It provided detailed insight into – for example – oil spill modelling in Brazil and Singapore, but also more general information, e.g. on the management of contaminated sediments. Prof. Hocine Oumeraci from the Technical University in Braunschweig, Germany, told the participants about the exciting information gained and lessons learned over the last decades in the world’s largest wave flume in Hannover.
Sessions on sediment transport the use of remote sensing techniques in the marine industry made a start on the second conference day. The conference also shed a light on the potential environmental impacts of human activities and the importance of Best Practice approaches. Directions for Future development were discussed in the concluding session.
Associate Prof. Adrian Law from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, referring on the significance of Marine Outfalls.
